Allan Frederick Nelson, age 91, of Chanute, KS passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 in Chanute, KS. Allan was born on May 22, 1924 in Chanute, KS the son of Oscar D. and Eunice (Gray) Nelson.

On April 1, 1955, Allan married Betty Agnes Graham in Hernando, Mississippi. Betty preceded him in death on October 17, 2012.

After graduating from Chanute High School in 1943, Allan joined the Army Air Force in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1945 after serving his country and completing 35 combat missions in a B-17 over Occupied Europe during WWII. He earned his bachelor’s degree from K-State in 1951 where he studied math and accounting. He went on to work as a systems analyst and computer programmer for various oil companies including 17 years at Amerada Hess Oil and 13 years with Gulf Oil. Allan was a member of the Chanute American Legion and the K-State Alumni Foundation. He was a proud K-Stater and loved watching K-State sports on television. Allan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Chanute, KS.

Allan was preceded in death by his parents; wife Betty; Sisters Helen Nelson, Ruth Elliott, Marian Geeding, and Martha Ann Moody; and brothers Louis Daniel Nelson and Ellis W. Nelson.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at a date to be announced. Inurnment will be at Swede Center Cemetery.
